A light touch

Now is the season where one particular wardrobe staple comes into its own: the lightweight knitted jumper.

Where its winter-weight cousin has a rugged-yet-practical charm, the slimmed down spring version is one of the most adaptable items a man can own. The key is simplicity – one colour, slim-fitting, classic round- or v-neck – which can then be dressed all the way up, or down.

Smart

Worn under a suit, a light knit adds a layer of warmth and a dose of personality. A v-neck cut comes into its own here, allowing more of the tie to be displayed. Colour-wise, opt for a complimentary neutral tone for more formal occasions; something a little brighter can lift a standard suit for more informal affairs.

Smart-casual

The soft-wool jumper, when paired with pleated trousers or flat-fronted chinos, classic brogues and a crisp white shirt, forms a timeless smart-casual ensemble suitable for all but the most dressy business occasions.

Casual

Dress a jumper all the way down by layering over an untucked, buttoned-up (but tie-less) Oxford shirt worn with jeans and trainers. Comfortable, contemporary and very easily dressed up with the addition of a jacket.
