Knitwear Care Guide

Scabal knitwear is crafted from the finest fibres, including merino wool, silk, and cashmere blends, chosen for their softness, elegance, and natural performance. To ensure your knitwear retains its luxurious feel and flawless look, follow these essential care guidelines.

1. Fold, Don’t Hang

Knitwear should always be folded and stored flat. Hanging can cause garments to stretch out of shape, especially around the shoulders. Use a breathable storage bag if keeping them stored for long periods.

2. Allow Time to Rest

Like all fine garments, knitwear benefits from rotation. Giving pieces time to recover between wears helps maintain their elasticity and prevents distortion, especially at the cuffs and hem.

3. Wash with Caution

Most knitwear should be washed by hand in cold water using a wool or cashmere-specific detergent. Avoid wringing—gently press out excess water. If machine-washing is permitted, use a delicate cycle in a mesh laundry bag.

4. Dry Flat

Never tumble dry. Lay knitwear flat on a clean towel and reshape it while damp. Let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight to avoid shrinkage and fading.

5. Prevent Pilling

Pilling is a natural occurrence in high-quality knits. To keep your garment looking new, use a fabric comb or depiller occasionally. Always follow the direction of the knit when removing pills.

6. Travel Tips

When travelling, gently fold your knitwear and store it in a fabric pouch or between layers of soft clothing. Avoid overpacking, which can cause unnecessary pressure and creasing.

    LINEN & COTTON

Linen knitwear offers a cool, breathable feel but can lose structure if hung or overheated. Hand wash in cold water or use a delicate cycle, and always dry flat to maintain its natural shape. Store folded to avoid stretching, and steam lightly to ease out creases. Dry cleaning helps preserve texture over time.

    COTTON

Cotton knitwear is more robust, but not indestructible. Wash inside out on a gentle cycle or by hand in cool water. Dry flat to prevent stretching and preserve the garment’s silhouette. Light steaming can remove wrinkles, but avoid heavy ironing. Dry cleaning is optional but recommended for tailored knits.

    SILK

Silk knitwear is refined and exceptionally delicate. It should be dry cleaned only—water can distort its weave and finish. Store folded, away from direct light, and never expose it to perfumes or deodorants. Even minimal mishandling can leave a mark—treat it as you would fine jewellery.

    CASHMERE

Luxuriously soft yet inherently fragile, cashmere knitwear demands the gentlest approach. Hand wash in cold water with a dedicated wool or cashmere detergent. Never wring or hang when wet—reshape and dry flat to prevent stretching. Store folded and away from heat, light, and moths. Dry clean only when essential.
